VIKING SPORTSMEN MINUTES January 11, 2007

Meeting Called to order at 7:00 p.m. by President Chad Weisel.

SECRETARY’S REPORT
Motion by Ken Anderson to accept minutes, seconded by Steve Hoskins. Motion passed.

TREASURER’S REPORT
Dale went over the annual report from Hockert’s, explained where the money was spent this past year.

Bill Maynard moved to accept treasurers’ report, seconded by Dave Fuerstenberg. Motion passed.

OLD BUSINESS
 Committee reports were given, reviewed projects done this past year
 Bill updated us on the land deal that is being worked on by Bell River. Bill showed a short video of the land that Bill and Jerry Engelbrecht put together. 1,040 acres of land, 40 acres restorable wetlands, grants are being applied for and other sportsmen groups are making pledges. $62,000 is already pledged, we need to raise $250,000. Bill will be attending the Minnesota Pheasants Forever annual meeting at Breezy Point, there will be a booth where they can show the video.
 Ice fishing challenge, committees are in place, prized are out and around town. Need more volunteers to help.
 Banquet is set for March 29 at the Broadway Ballroom. Meetings will begin soon to set committees. If interested in helping contact Mark Anderson.

NEW BUSINESS
 Election of directors, Bill Baumann, Dan Lindquist and Tim Lais have asked to step down at this time from the board. In place of Bill, Steve Hoskins; in place of Dan, Todd Lanners and to replace Tim, Jeff Crosby, others up for re-election are Glen Wink, Gregg Baxter, Bill Maynard and Jim Stratton. Jim Baxter moved to elect board as listed and cast a unanimous ballot, seconded by Ken. Motion passed.
 Report from the DNR round table held early January, Jim and Mark attended. Dedicated funding was discussed; Dave Zenter asked to speak with Viking Sportsmen sometime. As a group we should get and keep up on the issues with Outdoor News. We need to get the youth in middle school involved in outdoor sports reports show that fishing and hunting is down in the youth age population.

The floor was then turned over to Dave Nomsen, Vice President of Government Affairs for Pheasants Forever.
He spoke on the farm bill, many programs expire in September, signs for walk in access program. How we as a group can get alerts to keep our members abreast of what is going on. He also talked about the Theodore Roosevelt Conservation web site, trcp.org

Arlene moved to adjourn, seconded by Steve. Motion passed. Meeting was adjourned.

Next meeting is Thursday February 15, 2007 at the Bemo Building
