Social hour and spaghetti dinner 5:30 – 7:15

Meeting called to order at 7:15 by President Steve Hoskins

Presentation by Kevin Kotts, DNR Wildlife manager, Glenwood office. A discussion of WMA management using the Roger Holmes WMA as an example.

Secretary report; December minutes moved to accept Jim Stratton/second Greg Donahue. Passed
Treasurer report; Moved to accept by Arlene Bosek/second Jim Baxter. Passed. An explanation of the balance related to the Ice Fishing Challenge was given by Curt Flesner. A copy of the 2017 budget was available.

Committee reports:
Communications/fair booth-Barb Wittmer. The primary function of the booth this year was to distribute materials for Youth Day.

Fish Stocking-Belinda Wink/ Bob Gibson. Jim Bosek told of a poor harvest of fingerlings because of the weather which reduced the number of walleye fingerlings available for stocking.. Plans are to try to stock in the Spring.

Fish Fry-Greg Donahue. Greg will chair the fish fry scheduled for April 7 at St Mary’s school. Volunteers are needed.

Wildlife/Pheasants-Roger Wittmer. No special projects last year.

Senior Fishing-Arlene Bosek. The outing was a success and will be held the second Wednesday in July, 2017.

Junior Viking Sportsmen-Mark Anderson. This year’s group will be working on wood duck houses.

Youth Activity Day-Dean Krebs. 1811 children participated. Nearly 3000 people were involved. There were 38 activities. The DNR provided a $24, 000 grant. 2017 date is August 27.

Kids Food Plots-Glenn Wink. 50+ kids were involved with greater than 150 acres planted. A survey of the projects was done on November 21 and the banquet will be on February 20.

Adult Food Plots-Steve Henry. There were 13 participants with greater than 50 acres planted. A survey was done on November 20.

Land Acquisition-no report.

Property Maintenance/Taxes-Roger Wittmer/Steve Henry. Access was purchased to the Hardwoods north of Nelson. A pollinator plot was planted on the Emily Johnson property. The Lobster Lake lot will go back to the County after we choose not to pay the taxes for the past 4 years.

WILDLIFE Conservation Award-Mark Anderson. Craig Haseman was last year’s winner. A new recipient will be selected for this year with presentation at the Banquet,

Banke Scholarship- Roger and Barb Wittmer. Notices have been sent out for this year.

Art Engelbrecht Scholarship-Wittmers. Applications are available for this year.

Legacy Conservation Grants-Steve Henry. We are working with the Pioneer Heritage Trust to complete a project on cattail control.

Banquet-Jim Baxter. This year’s Banquet is scheduled for April 6 at the Holiday Inn. Volunteers are needed.

NEW BUSINESS:
Election of Board of Directors:
Jim Stratton, Chairman of the Board, announced a slate recommended by the Executive Committee: Kevin Weisel Mark Anderson Chuck Bokinski Dean Krebs Greg Donahue Steve Henry Jim Stratton
Gene Sullivan moved that nominations cease. Seconded by Bob Gibson
Chuck Bokinski called the question.
Motion passed on a hand vote 17-6.

DNR roundtable report-Chuck Bokinski and Steve Henry attended the session held on January 6, 2017 in Bloomington. They felt there was a generally negative tone with decreased funding, fewer licenses sold, spreading and new AIS and CWD in deer. There was discussion of lowering the walleye limit and raising the cost of fishing licenses.

DNR Deer Hunting public input-Friday, January 27 at 7pm at Broadway Ballroom.
Parkers Prairie Sportsmen Club Fund Raiser, Saturday February 4 at the Parkers Event Center.
DC Pheasants Forever Friday, February 24 at the Broadway Ballroom.
Alexandria Industries Fishing Tournament on Smith Lake Saturday February 18.
