Viking Sportsmen Supplemental Walleye Stocking Program
Viking Sportsmen will award up to $500 to any Douglas County Lake Association that enhances their walleye fishery through supplemental stocking. For any stocking that costs $1,000 or more the club will award $500. Any stocking below $1,000 the club will pay half the cost. Funds are limited and available on first come/first serve basis. In 2006, the Viking Sportsmen formed a committee for stocking walleye fingerlings in area lakes with a five-year plan.
In the fall of 2007, with the help of lake associations and other donations, fingerlings were put into the chain of lakes. In 2008, with the help of the Alexandria Hotel & Hospitality and lake associations the fish stocking program was expanded to about 18 lakes in our county. The Viking Sportsmen would like to ask area anglers to keep in mind a “15 inch rule”, releasing walleyes that are smaller than 15 inches.
